One day at the UT Bibliotheek

Posted by in the category Articole UT

As a fresh student at a University probably your purpose for being here is to learn more and finally to know more.

 So, where can you study?

UT Bibliotheek

University of Twente has a lot of study areas; in almost every building in the campus there is a space for study. And, of course, they have a library.

The library is in the Vrijhof building, in campus and it has 3 floors (btw: in campus, the ground floor is considered first floor). The actual entrance of the library is on second floor. There you have a normal study area (with lot of desks, couches, computers) and, after that, you can choose to enter in the Silent Area. The Silent Area is different from the normal area because there is ……silence. Of course this is not the only difference. Silent Area is the one that actually covers 2 floors; it is open space with inspiring design and beautiful lake view by the windows and with useful books on the bookshelves (for inside study).

What impressed me the most in Silent Area is the so called “project area”, closed rooms with glass walls where you are allowed to discuss (not like in regular silence area). This kind of room is intended for project groups or study groups who want to work or learn together. There is a whiteboard with markers available, and in some rooms are LCD screens. You can study in there if you book it or if you find a free one (but you can stay there only until the students that made a reservation come). If you are already an UT student and you didn’t know it, with your student ID you can book a “project room” on this portal: link.

Another good think about the library is that if you need to borrow books, you can make a request online and then you can get your book from the librarian. You can also make reservations for books (in advance for exam period for example).

Facts:

  • 521 study places; 297 of these places situated in project areas;
  • 49 study places with desktop PC;
  • 80 lockers available for one-year rent; 100 lockers available for daily use;
  • 14 study spaces with desktop PC.

When can you study?

Monday-Friday 8.30-22.00, Saturday-Sunday 9.00-20.00. In the exam periodz the library has a special program called “XXL Week” which means that the program is longer: Monday-Friday 8.30-00.00, Saturday-Sunday 9.00-22.00. Opening hours.
